Hi everyone this is Nikki Katz from southern California again.  I’m not pregnant yet but I will be testing later this week.  One thing that worries me about getting pregnant anytime soon is the morning sickness.  I had morning sickness up through my first 10 weeks with both of my daughters.  Not the full fledged vomiting all day in the toilet kind of morning sickness but I was nautious from morning until night.

I had very strong aversions to any form of meat.  Smells made me sick to my stomach and so did any fluctuations in the weather.  Eventually it went away.  So this time around I’ve researched everything in advance hoping to come up with some ways to beat the all day sickness.  No one is exactly sure what causes morning sickness but it seems it is related to the changes in your body, the rapidly increasing estrogen and progesterone levels and an enhanced smell and excess stomach acids.

One theory is that morning sickness is caused by progesterone.  Progesterone has a softening effect on the muscles in the body including your stomach and intestines; this works to make the elimination of bodily waste slower and slows the emptying of your stomach which leads to excess acids.  Another theory is that morning sickness is caused by the build up of HGTB which continues to increase until your 12th week of pregnancy.

After that the HGT levels begin to decrease which is when many of the morning sickness begins to decrease as well.  Here are some tips to curve your morning sickness. You should try avoiding greasy, fried or spicy foods.  You’ll also want to follow your cravings.  You can try eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.

Eat salty food, drink non-caffeinated teas like peppermint or ginger tea.   Drink small amounts of fluid at a time.  Don’t skip any meals; try to take naps throughout the day if you can.  Eat crackers or anything plain in bed before getting up in the morning.  Avoid warm places, and avoid strong odors especially while cooking.

Various smells can affect your nausea.  Try to take your prenatal vitamins with dinner or before bedtime.  Don’t lay down right after eating.  You can also purchase and try the wristbands for motion sickness or try the suck on hard candies.  I will definitely be trying one or all of these if I get pregnant anytime soon.  You can learn more at my website http://www.allinfoaboautpregnancy.com.  Make sure to tune in during the upcoming weeks for more pregnancy tips and tricks.
