Hi
moms this is Carrie from
www.naturalbabyworld.com and I’m sharing what is probably my biggest pet
peeve about breastfeeding. I’m so tired of this mess about that
breastfeeding women have to eat a special diet, especially a bland diet.
You’re going to find websites that give really bad breastfeeding advice that
says oh a nursing mom has to eat this certain kind of diet in order to make
good milk for her baby.
Or
she can’t eat spicy or gassy foods, she can’t eat any perciphers vegetables
and she can’t have curry and she can’t have anything pickled and she can’t
have anything carbonated or this and that. That is so not true. I mean if
you just think like the common sense test if it was bad to eat spicy foods
when you are breastfeeding what do all the women in all of these nations
that eat very spicy diets, what do they do?
I
mean are all the Mexican babies or all the Pakistan babies all colicky? I
don’t think so. It just doesn’t make any sense. There’s not a shred of
evidence that shows spicy or gassy foods cause problems in breastfeeding
babies. In fact it’s actually impossible for perciphers vegetables to cause
gas in a breastfeeding baby.
The
reason for that is that the thing that causes you gas when you eat broccoli
or beans or whatever is undigested fiber. Fiber does not pass through your
breast milk. It is physically impossible for that to go through your milk
so your baby is not gassy because you eat perciphers vegetables or onions or
garlic.
Interestingly, there has been more than one study that shows babies like
garlicky breastmilk. They suck longer and harder when they taste garlic in
the milk. So go ahead and sprinkle some garlic on your food, no kidding
because your husband might say wait you stink. Don’t stress about your
diet.
Something’s are kind of fairly obvious like you would not want to drink
several cups of coffee a day, if you drink so much caffeine that you are
jittery there is a chance that your baby might become slightly colicky from
that or just get too much caffeine in your milk. Use common sense with
that. Carbonated beverages, it’s not possible for you to have carbonated
blood so it’s not possible for you to have carbonated milk.
That’s another thing that you can think about. Your breast milk is made
from the nutrients that are in your blood stream. So if it shows up in your
blood it can show up in your milk. Obviously when you drink a coke you
don’t get carbonation in your blood so you can’t get carbonation in your
milk.
I
can’t help but think that the focus on getting all stressed out about your
diet is kind of a subtle way of undermining breastfeeding and making it more
difficult than it needs to be. You just don’t need to worry all that much.
Your focus should be on eating a healthy diet just like when you were
pregnant you wanted to eat a healthy diet to protect your health and to
protect your baby’s health.
When
you are breastfeeding your body is designed to give the baby what he or she
needs. My advice to you is to eat a healthy diet so you can protect your
health because nature has designed it so that your baby gets what he or she
needs even if you are from an under nourished place. Eat high quality fats,
avoid hydrogenated oils.
The
research shows that that is one thing that does impact your breast milk
negatively. If you eat a lot of Tran’s fatty acids, in other words a lot of
chips or French fries – a lot of junky fats like that – that it lowers the
quality of the fat and baby’s need fat so eat those healthy fats. Put
butter on your food, put olive oil on your food, and eat nuts and seeds and
things like that. So don’t stress so much about your food. That’s it.
Those are my happy breastfeeding tips.
If
you want more breastfeeding information I encourage you to visit
www.naturalbabyworld.com or
www.sexynursingbra.com. There is no excuse for wearing a skanky old
stained ill fitting bra when you are lactating. I mean think about it, your
bra is going to be seen more when you are breastfeeding than any other time
so do yourself a favor and buy yourself a pretty bra. I hope this
information has been helpful. If you have questions you can email me at
carrie@carrielauth.com Have a great breastfeeding experience.
