Hi
moms you’re back with the happy Breastfeeder. Today we are talking about
appreciating your baby’s uniqueness. It seems like we moms just can’t win.
If you’re bottle feeding your baby and she’s petite or if she is a big baby
people are going to say things like oh what are you feeding her? And if you
are breastfeeding and your baby is petite they are going to say you are
starving that child or if your baby is just plump and bouncy they will say
oh you are over feeding that baby, you need to give her a pacifier you need
to stop feeding her every time she looks at you.
We
just can’t win but this is what I want to pass on to you – every baby is
different and I don’t want you to stress so much about your baby’s size. If
you’re breastfeeding your baby when she wants to limiting artificial nipples
and supplemental bottles and not worrying about scheduling feedings your
baby is likely going to be the size she is supposed to be, she is going to
be perfect. A lot of it has to do with genetics.
You
might want to ask your mother-in-law what your husband looked like when he
was your baby’s age, ask your mom what you looked like when you were your
baby’s age. Don’t be really concerned if your baby is not nursing the exact
same number of times a day as your friends baby. Babies differ in
temperament and personality. Some babies are going to be attached to mom all
day long and other babies’ just kind of get down to business and they don’t
nurse a whole lot for comfort.
Some
babies are kind of dainty with their meals they like to snack and nap and
snack and nap. Some babies are going to petite and perfect and other baby’s
are going to be rolley polley and huge, stop worrying so much and just enjoy
your baby. Offer the breast frequently; get to know your baby’s signal for
hunger.
Another thing don’t be obsessed with baby poop. Some babies just don’t
follow that perfect poop schedule that you read about. Some baby’s poop a
little bit like as big as a quarter with each diaper change. Some babies go
several days in between a poop but watch out because they will make up in
quantity what they lack in frequency. If your baby is gaining weight and
growing your baby is fine so just relax and enjoy your baby. Breastfeeding
is supposed to be fun remember.
