Whether it’s hiring a babysitter for a night out with your spouse or hiring a full time nanny, it’s important that you really know who is caring for your baby.  Follow these tips to be sure that Mary Poppins doesn’t turn out to be Scary Poppins.  Define what type of help you are looking for. 

If you are looking for an occasional babysitter rather than a full time nanny your expectations and the qualifications that you are looking for may be different.  Define what you duties your need your provider to perform so that you can match your expectations to their qualifications.  The way that you will look for your provider, if you are looking for an in home full time nanny use a placement agency and all the screening tools that they have to offer. 

If you go at it on your own you want word of mouth, write an ad in the local paper or by utilizing the internet page classified site.  Be sure to do your homework!  Screen your potential caregiver by requesting and checking personal and professional references and running criminal check and by asking them for a copy of their driving record.
