Aloha, it’s Stacie and I’m here to talk with you today about my experience with the 4D sonogram, or ultrasound.  We did this with our son who is the youngest of our four children and basically it was because my husband didn’t come with me to my regular ultrasound that is done by the doctor and that was because we had our three girls and of course we really wanted a son and my husband wanted to be surprised.

He didn’t want to know whether we were having a boy or girl so I didn’t tell him about my ultrasound because I knew that if he knew where I was going he would probably want to come and he might want to find out whether we were having a boy or girl and I wanted to respect his wish in not finding out.  I wanted to just sort of keep him from knowing that I was even going because then he would get curious.

Anyways, it turned out that when I went to my ultrasound for the doctor I found out that we were having a boy and I don’t exactly remember how the conversation came up but a few weeks later we ended up talking about it and I told him that we were gonna be having a son and he was very excited and very happy.

So then of course he wanted to see the pictures and of course those black and white ultrasound pictures don’t exactly show you very well whether or not you’re having a boy or having a girl, sometimes it’s hard to tell.  So he looked at them and he just kind of said well I’ll be convinced when I see the baby.  It ended up coming toward the end of my pregnancy, I’m in the third trimester and I was looking at a family magazine and there was an add in there for a 4D sonogram, a local company that does it here and it’s the only company that I know of here that does it.

I told my husband about it and it was about $125 or so to go in and do the sonogram and when I told him about it oh yeah it’s kind of cool but he didn’t really say anything more than that so I figured he was probably not interested in going.  It came toward about my 36, 37th week and he finally goes when are we going to go do the ultrasound and I said well I didn’t know you were interested because you didn’t really say anything and he said well yeah I want to go.

I called the company and they said well ideally you come in between 32 and 36 weeks because the baby is quite developed by then but they still have some room to move around so that’s the ideal time to come in and get a good picture.  I think I was already at 37 weeks so it was kind of past the time frame but they said well you know if you still want to come in you can still do so but there is no guarantee that we are going to really see the baby’s face or anything like that so if you don’t mind paying for the session we don’t give refunds if we don’t get great pictures so I said ok we’ll go ahead and give it a try.

So I made an appointment and we went in after work one day and this was probably about six o’clock so we were the last ones of the day because we were the only ones there and the technician really took her time with us at least we felt that’s how it was going.  We stayed in there for probably close to 45 minutes and we got to stand there and see our baby and we did get a good shot of his face and everything so we were quite happy and it was just so fun to sit in there and actually see this baby that was growing inside me because you know how it gets toward the ends of a pregnancy – you feel like it’s been so long and you wonder when this baby is ever going to come?

It was so nice to see the baby and it’s kind of actually helped already with the bonding and I know most mothers’ think about the child all the time but it was just really great to be able to see oh there is my little one. It kind of in a way relieved some of the wondering of when is this going to happen that you have towards the end of your pregnancy but at the same time it also made me even more anxious to see him because I had seen him in 3D, 4D and what not so it just makes you want to have him and hold him already in your arms.

So in a way it was good and in a way it just made me more anxious but I had a lot of fun and I thought it was a great experience and we got so much time in there.  I don’t know if all companies spend that much time with you or not and I’m sure that the little ones I think they have some in some malls like the kios type form and I’m sure that’s really different but they also said this is not a substitute for an actual medical ultrasound.

You shouldn’t use it as an alternative to actually seeing your doctor and having the prenatal health care going on but it was a lot of fun for us.  My husband go to see for himself that we were in fact having a boy because it was very very obvious in the pictures that it was in fact a little boy that we were having and not a girl.

So we got a lot of cool pictures and we had a lot of fun, our family enjoyed the pictures, our neighbors enjoyed the pictures and even though I thought before that it was a little bit strange to see that much detail prior to the baby being born, after having been through it I think it’s really great and really fun and a good experience for all parents who are expecting.

If you have the opportunity or know someone who is pregnant and toward the end of their pregnancy, definitely recommend it to them or if you have the chance to go ahead and do it I would definitely recommend it for a new parent!
